Howdy, I have build a fully functional database application, and want to be able to install it on other machines, not all of which have BDE. I know I need somehow to include that into my installer package, and tried downloading a BDE Merge Module to include in the installer package, but i cannot get the Setup for the Merge Module to install. It 'cannot find a valid version of Delphi ot C Builder'. Does BCB6 already contain a BDE merge module, should I try to re-install BCB or what? If anyone has had any similar porblems, advise would be highly welcomed.
There most be some logical explanation, and certainly a solution. Thanks, onrdbandit(not off) RE: Need to include BDE in install package. (Programmer) 12 Mar 03 12:52. I've never had much luck getting an installer to install BDE. Luckily, all our computers use Corel which installs an ealier version of BDE. All I have to do is update BDE to the same version I used. On a side note, Borland is depreciating BDE.
This means that eventually they will drop it and Paradox. There was an article on their Developer's web site about this.
BCB 6 uses DataSnap and Borland suggests using it instead of BDE. I'm testing Flash Filer by TurboPower as an alternative to BDE. This is now under the Mozilla license and can be found at Source Forge (sourceforge.net).
So far I'm very please with what I've found. Very easy to install and get running. Work very similarly to BDE and is designed to be a replacement for BDE. I'm still testing though. Cottingham When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute.

RE: Need to include BDE in install package. Howdy, I have read some documentation on BDE (bdedeploy.txt), and from what I gather, all I have to do are to destribute the BDE DLL's with my app, and InstallShield will take care of the rest. I am going to give it a wack, and will inform on developments.
Everything I can find from Borland tends to suggest that this should work, but as you know, that aint always the case. Thanks for the input. Will post results soon, onrdbandit RE: Need to include BDE in install package.
Rolandkg1001, I would seriously suggest to the firm that they need to bring their application into the 21st century and get it rewritten to handle the data without the BDE. The BDE was deprecated long before Vista, much less Windows 7. Paradox is also a deprecated database.
It was never the most network/multiuser friendly database. Does the firm have the source code or are they running on a totally unsupported/unsupportable executable? If the latter, then they would be well advised to get it rewritten before there is a version of Windows that it is absolutely incompatible with.
